Television Reality

Reality ought to be something we can all mostly agree on. I don't know if life has any meaning beyond what we can make of it for ourselves, but I do feel that words, particularly words pertaining to truth or fact, have meanings that should not be taken lightly. We can all share different perspectives of the same focal point and come to a general consensus about any given item. Res ipsa loquitur, so to speak. Of course, when perspective is intentionally warped in a mass media forum, a terrible thing sometimes happens; irony becomes an instant casualty & appears to become imperceptible. Suddenly, pure dogshit becomes a valuable commodity that people will pay good money to acquire. It is as if all the senses have been replaced by some indulgent need comparable to an opiate addiction that is just as toxic and stupefying. Like bodies smiling through sugar-induced comas.
This is not really meant as criticisms against indulging in fantasy, but I do have a serious problem with blurring distinctions of outright fiction with a term and concept so crucial to basic honesty - reality.

With that stated, we watched Pirate Master on CBS tonight.
So, this is reality television? Reality is a bunch of people swabbing the decks of a sailing pirate ship while flexing their bods for video cameras in the, uh, 21st century.
Presumably, CBS has arranged permits of some kind for any vessels they capture and loot and any prisoners they rape or slaughter... or has the word pirate lost all of its meaning as well?

As I try to put this post up after about two hours now, I can't stop the dreadful thought that reality isn't the only word to have lost any semblance of meaning these past years.
Ah, screw it.
