I woke up this morning after a series of wild dreams but otherwise uninterrupted sleep and felt for the first time since Bloody Sunday that I was breathing again. The sun is shining for the first time I've noticed and - I have to repeat it, I feel like I'm breathing again.
I've also been informed that my lunatic, drug-addled neighbor is finally gone. The landlord's face was uncharacteristically grim when he told me if I see ex-neighbor again to call the police. For all the cigarette butts and q-tips this little creep tossed all over the place (including my yard) I can't imagine what the destruction inside the house is like and so I promised the landlord I would call.
In all my days of working maintenance on the rivers, the only trash I refused to pick up were things like diapers and sanitary napkins and q-tips. I'd see them and just imagine them radiating invisible strands of hepatitis like sea anemone bristling with disease instead of poison.
Anyway, it's good to start a morning with a sense of relief for a change. The paralysis of shock finally seems to be easing.
