Burden of Proof

I was seeking out news the other day on the imminent execution of Troy Davis and was stunned to see on one of the 24/7 "news" channels, one of their anchors ask about the recanted testimonies of the majority of eyewitnesses put on the stand to finger Davis for the 1989 murder of a policeman: "So why should we trust that they were lying then when they could be lying now?"

Fucking Jesus Christ!!! I can barely accommodate considering such monstrous stupidity. It genuinely offends my thought process and I'm not even a goddamned attorney...

...If an eyewitness for the State, particularly in something as ultimately fucking serious as a capital (meaning DEATH PENALTY) case EVER contradicts themselves in ANY testimonies, their reliability and credibility as a witness is forevermore and permanently and infinitely and ceaselessly and endlessly and in perpetuity irretrievably FUCKED!!!
Whether they were honest in 1989 or 2011 is no longer in question: THEIR TESTIMONIES ARE NO LONGER RELIABLE and need to be kicked out of any further consideration towards putting a man to death.

I'm sad tonight. Angry too. I made the mistake of visiting a message board where spectators of the Coliseum braying their vicarious approval of the murder of fellow citizens is just another indulgence. And I hear people talk about "humanity" as a noble thing.
