The Guns of August

I had read Barbara Tuchman's The Proud Tower in college & found a copy of The Guns of August by the generosity of a professor clearing out the office book shelves.

After reading Johnson's article tonight, I may have to change up my reading list. Not all history books are written by historians - some of them are written by talented writers.

Empires fall. The question becomes what good were they in the first place?
