A Goodbye

I woke up this morning & I looked at a picture for a while.

I talked to the picture briefly - sometimes it's the only way to say goodbye - then I played some music; Jimi Hendrix' One Rainy Wish & Bold As Love, followed by Janis Joplin singing Me and Bobby McGee & Mercedes Benz.

With that concluded, I built a fire in the backyard and then stepped out of the way of the sunlight as I placed the picture on the burning sticks.

As I watched it catch fire, I raised a glass & said "so long..."

A robin chirped from a tree and I thought of how robins signal the beginning of spring to some people. I noticed how quiet the morning and how blue and perfect the sky was.
I watched the fire for a few more minutes before pouring water on it and going inside.
