Thrill of the Hunt

Buzzing around in the front garden this evening I noticed a tiny hummingbird. A closer look at the checkered stripes and I realized it was a hummingbird moth. I dashed inside to find my camera nearly killing myself and my cat as he uncharacteristically decided to bolt outside. As fireflies slowly emerged from the grass, I crept up on this amazing moth and somehow panicked the bugger who suddenly flew up to face the lense in a tantalizing split second and then silently sped away across to the pasture.
However, I hesitated. I didn't get the shot. Oh what a cruel thrill!
If you've never seen one (and I plan to stake out the front stoop tomorrow in hopes for another chance) there's a lovely picture here with a zoom-in detail and description.

In other news, my cat, the one who tried to murder me thirty short minutes ago, no longer likes wheel barrow rides. There was nothing quite as amusing to see a wide-eyed Bughouse intently lean forward like the figure head of a schooner while pushed across the yard.
Oh well...
