I can't think of a better organization to take up Reverend Terry Jones' pledge to burn qur'ans tomorrow than the Westboro Baptist Church. Since Fred Phelps & followers hate America more than Terry Jones passes for a christian, it's hard to imagine any rational muslims concerning themselves too much about insults to their faiths from such a gathering of widely unpopular dickheads. Signs at military funerals with messages like GOD HATES FAGS and PRAY FOR MORE DEAD SOLDIERS tend to marginalize the radical message of your vision of your god's love for humanity.
Every asshole out there bitching about a mosque near the World Trade Center might ought to take notice with the bigoted company they now clearly keep. I doubt Terry Jones is capable of recognizing the publicity he has just enabled for Phelps nor the obvious similarities between the two of them, but one can hope.

In the meantime, I'll not shed any tears if some bigshot Ayatollah issues a Salman Rushdie-style fatwa on Phelps' head for going through with a burning. But I don't promise I won't laugh if he is ultimately considered too much of a piss-ant to bother with giving a death sentence.
