For What It's Worth

I often wonder what it means to be patriotic in America anymore. I see a lot of flag waving but I don't see any meaning to it. I can celebrate that we're not burning people in ovens I suppose, but as I continue to lose any semblance of delusion promoted by the myth-makers of this country, I see the future crumbling - unsustainable as it is held to together by flashy special effects and general lies and bullshit.
It makes my heart sick to admit it but I don't believe in America anymore.

The CIA agreed to cover at least $5 million in legal fees for two contractors who were the architects of the agency's interrogation program and personally conducted dozens of waterboarding sessions on terror detainees, former U.S. officials said.

The secret agreement means taxpayers are paying to defend the men in a federal investigation over an interrogation tactic the United States now says is torture. The deal is even more generous than the protections the agency typically provides its own officers, giving the two men access to more money to finance their defenses.

Let's face it - this is just another horrifying revelation to sweep under the rug and forget as fast as we can. Proud Patriots that we are.
