Hate Mail

I got a mass email this morning concerning Red Shirt Friday that has irritated me. It's not the message that bothers me, it's the punitive tone designed to shame people who do not support the war in Iraq. The letter concludes with

"Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you; Jesus Christ and the
American Soldier.

IF YOU AGREE -- THEN SEND THIS ON. IF YOU COULD CARE LESS --
THEN HIT THE DELETE BUTTON."

Get fucked.

When the hell did I ever ask anybody to die for me? I tried to stop this useless waste of a war from starting. I attended anti-war rallies. I wrote letters to newspapers. I even sent one to Mr. Popularity himself - George Bush - urging a different course than the one we are currently bogged down in now - going on six years with no resolution or strategy or apparent meaning yet to be revealed behind the war.

The stupid pricks that thought this war was a good idea are the ones who have hit the goddamned delete button. Deleting the lives of 4,000 fellow Americans and counting in the process - not to mention the uncounted thousands of dead Iraqis. Is it tens of thousands? Hundreds? Just collateral damage in the end, lost for the cause of shifting rationale.

I supported the troops so much that someone actually protested one of my protest letters; describing how I should be strapped to a MOAB and dropped down the chimney of Saddam's palace for betraying my country. Well, I think the people who perpetrated & promoted the lies that railroaded America into this pointless war are the ones who have betrayed their country.

Our soldiers don't need symbolic reach-arounds, they deserve better. They deserve to live for their country rather than die for nothing.
